Game description: Ranma ½ is an action-adventure game based on the popular Japanese manga and anime series created by Rumiko Takahashi. The game tasks players with helping Ranma overcome four unique trials to prove his devotion to Akane. During these trials, Ranma must avoid familiar characters from the series — Shampoo, Ukyu Kuonji, P-Chan, and Ryoga Hibiki — who attempt to catch and curse him, transforming him into a girl. When transformed, the player must return to the home base to revert back before continuing. Gameplay alternates between exploration and a series of short mini-games. The exploration sections involve navigating simple maze-like environments while avoiding enemy contact, while the mini-games test timing and reaction, though with varying degrees of skill involved. Players are limited to three lives for the entire game, adding a layer of difficulty.

Summary
Ranma ½ looks better than it plays. On first impression, its visuals are its strongest asset — detailed, charming, and authentically styled to match the manga’s look, with a presentation that could easily fit on an early Nintendo system. Sadly, once the novelty wears off, the gameplay quickly reveals itself to be rather flat.
The exploration parts suffer from repetitive enemy patterns and limited challenge, while two of the four mini-games rely almost entirely on luck, leaving little room for genuine player skill. The controls feel slightly sluggish, which can make avoiding enemies more frustrating than fun. The gender-change mechanic — a concept with great potential — ends up being more of a nuisance than a clever gameplay twist, especially since being caught forces tedious backtracking.
With only three lives to complete the entire adventure, the difficulty feels unnecessarily punishing given how basic the gameplay is. In the end, Ranma ½ will likely appeal most to die-hard fans of the series who simply want to see the characters brought to life on the Commodore 64. For everyone else, it’s a stylish but shallow experience that fails to deliver much excitement beneath its polished visuals.
