Every once in a while, a Commodore 64 release comes along that makes you question the limits of the machine — and Quod INIT Exit IIo is one of those rare moments. The sheer quality of the graphics is striking; at times, it feels as though you’re looking at something from a 16-bit console rather than an 8-bit home computer.
What really drew me in, though, was the combination of level design and puzzle-like progression. You find yourself experimenting — trying out different actions just to see what might open up next in this strange, abstract world. The first level may be a touch too large, but its scale quickly gives way to a satisfying sense of discovery. Technically, the multi-scrolling and fast-paced gameplay are impressive achievements in their own right.
Each game zone has its own theme and mood, evoking the spirit of classic games while maintaining a fresh, almost surreal identity.
