The beautifully presented in-game graphics, combined with polished platforming and light puzzle elements, create an experience that draws you in from the start. Early on, you’ll face challenging precision sword duels, but it won’t take long to learn enemy attack patterns and develop the strategies needed to dispatch your foes swiftly.
A game in this genre lives and dies by its controls—and I’m happy to report that Musketeers offers highly fluid and responsive handling, making it a genuine pleasure to play.
Taking a bit of shine off the experience is the fact that enemies respawn when you re-enter a screen, which can feel repetitive. I was also slightly disappointed by the limited size of the game world; it’s not especially large, and I found myself wanting more of what the game had to offer.
Still, despite that hunger for greater scope, there’s no denying that Musketeers delivers good old nostalgic C64 gaming at its finest—polished, addictive, and an absolute joy to play.
