Game title: Florida Man Saves the World

Game description: Florida Man Saves the World is a platform puzzle game in which the player controls Florida Man and his pet alligator. Aliens have invaded Florida, and the objective is to progress through each level, avoid or overcome obstacles such as aliens, giant pythons, and porta-potties, and collect nine artifacts. Once all artifacts are found, the final battle with the alien leader Zadron becomes accessible. The game features nine regular levels, one secret boss level, three difficulty settings, and four possible endings. The joystick in Port 2 is used for control. Pressing the fire button switches between Florida Man and the alligator, while pressing up allows jumping and climbing. Power-ups can be collected to gain temporary invincibility.

Summary

Florida Man Saves the World is a surprisingly enjoyable experience that kept me engaged from start to finish. I had a good time trying to solve each level, with the game’s mix of platforming and puzzle-solving keeping things fresh. The single player “co-op” mechanic, where you switch between Florida Man and his alligator, works particularly well and adds an extra layer of strategy. The puzzles themselves are cleverly designed, offering a difficulty curve that feels fair—challenging enough to be rewarding without ever becoming frustrating.

That said, the game does feel a little short. With only nine main levels, I found myself wishing there was more content to explore once I’d settled into the rhythm of the gameplay. The graphics, while functional, could also benefit from more refinement to really bring the quirky setting to life. Still, despite these shortcomings, Florida Man Saves the World delivers a unique and entertaining adventure that’s worth checking out for anyone who enjoys puzzle-driven platformers on the C64.
